I am Titilola Omotosho, a 3rd year PhD student of Social Justice Education/Global Health. I am a Counselling Psychologist, who is passionate and dedicated to ensuring global mental wellness. As a member of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 for the past two years, I would say it was the best thing that happened to me in Canada. I am not just a health equity researcher, I uphold anti racism, anti-oppression and believe in building a community where everyone has a voice, get value for their effort and work in an environment that promotes their physical and mental wellbeing. I seek the opportunity to serve as Unit 1 and Unit 7 Vice President with a vision to promote work-life balance through advocacy, support and team work.

I have developed a great interest in advocacy that can enhance the productivity of teaching and graduate assistants at the University of Toronto, I see every member as a positive addition to the university community. Upholding the academic excellence in teaching, research and innovation is largely dependent on us. Having served as the financial coordinator for Social Justice Education Departmental Students’ Association and as a member of the OISE Governing Council, I understand various needs of graduate students who are combining studies and work. As a fellow doctoral student, I understand how the physical and mental health of research students can be imparted negatively by school, work-culture and expectations.

My quest for welfarism led to the provision of financial support for SJE students twice during my tenure as well as a conference grant in the current academic year. I have participated in various leadership trainings and acquired skills to be productive in this role including Organizing for Power and social innovation certificates. As one of the CUPE 3902 representatives at Ontario University Workers Conference 2022, I am prepared and well informed about the power of unity and organization in building a strong team.
