Unit 1 Transit Fund - Open for Applications!
During the 2024 round of collective bargaining, your Union raised significant concerns about affordable access to public transit for bargaining unit employees.
After initial refusal by the Employer, the Employer and the Union agreed to seek a public transit fare discount for bargaining unit employees of at least 45% of the cost of a TTC post-secondary monthly pass! However, this discount was not secured by the agreed upon deadline of January 1, 2025.
Therefore, as required by your Collective Agreement, the Employer paid a financial penalty of $1,000,000 to the Union for disbursement to Unit 1 members. If the discount remains unsecured by January 1, 2026, the Employer will contribute a second payment of $1,000,000 to the Union.
The $1M penalty paid into the 2025 Unit 1 Employee Financial Assistance Funds will be distributed evenly to Unit 1 members who apply to receive a portion of these monies and who performed at least one (1) hour of Unit 1 work during the 2024/2025 academic year (September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025).
Should your Local receive an additional $1,000,000 penalty, this disbursement model will be repeated in 2026.
The deadline for this fund is 11:59pm EST on December 31, 2025. This form will close automatically at this time, and no late applications will be accepted for any reason.
