The results are in: RAs at UofT have won their union!

Research Associates at the University of Toronto have finally won their union certification vote!

For the first time, Senior Research Associates and Limited Term Research Associates can negotiate their working conditions and join over 10,000 other academic workers as members of CUPE 3902!

The result of the vote was:

  • Total ballots cast: 233

  • Yes: 172

  • No: 60

  • Segregated ballots: 1

Seventy-five percent voted in favour of unionization. While this result shows the university that Research Associates stand strongly behind the campaign to improve their working conditions and protect word class research, we also know some did not vote and some voted No. No matter how you voted, your priorities and your voice are critical to the work ahead of us.

What happens next?

We will be sending out information in the coming weeks to hold a meeting, provide information about CUPE 3902, elect your bargaining committee and ultimately negotiate your first collective agreement.

In the meantime, reach out to CUPE 3902 President Marianna Reis at president@cupe3902.org if you have any questions.
