Unit 1 Transit Fund Opening December 1

During the 2024 round of collective bargaining, the Union raised significant concerns about affordable access to public transit for bargaining unit employees.

After initial refusal by the Employer, the Employer and the Union agreed to seek a public transit fare discount for bargaining unit employees of at least 45% of the cost of a TTC post-secondary monthly pass. This discount was not secured by the agreed upon deadline of January 1, 2025.

As required by your Collective Agreement, the Employer paid a financial penalty of $1,000,000 to the Union for disbursement to Unit 1 members. If the discount remains unsecured by January 1, 2026, the Employer will contribute a second payment of $1,000,000 to the Union.

The $1,000,000 penalty paid into the 2025 Unit 1 EFAF will be distributed evenly via the Transit Fund to Unit 1 Members who apply to receive a portion of these monies and who performed at least one (1) hour of Unit 1 work during the 2024-25 Academic Year. Should the Local receive an additional $1,000,000 penalty, this disbursement model will be repeated in 2026!

Applications for the Transit Fund will be available starting December 1 to 31, 2025 under the "Forms" tab on the Member Portal for eligible members.
Late applications will not be accepted.
