University Pension Plan Meeting Report-Back

On October 15, 2025, executive leaders and member representatives from CUPE locals 3902, 1230, and 1281, USW 1998, UTFA, and TUFA met with Senior Directors of the University Pension Plan (UPP). Our coalition of labour groups share similar member-driven motions calling on the UPP to divest from Israel’s genocide, apartheid, and illegal occupation.

Our divestment motions have made an impact! In the meeting, UPP shared that in the past year they have already started some divestment activities, including divesting from specific companies, though they declined to provide further details about the scope and scale of what they’ve done. Our group of labour organizations represent thousands of workers whose deferred wages are invested in UPP, and we will continue to demand further transparency from the Plan. This includes requesting that more detailed data be published online and in Annual Reports, and that UPP update its policies on Responsible Investing, Investment Exclusions, and Inequality. We have also requested a follow-up meeting with UPP to monitor progress.

This important work is being stewarded by the Workers Campaign for UPP Divestment, a coalition of workers from unions and faculty associations across Ontario which pay into the University Pension Plan.
