We’re Hiring: Staff Organizer!

Position Title: Staff Organizer  | Position Type: Full time, 12-month term, with possibility for extension   | Start Date: January 2026 

Workplace Location: 374-376 Bathurst Street, with frequent location work at the St. George, Scarborough and Mississauga campuses of the University of Toronto 


CUPE 3902 is the trade union representing more than 11,000 part-time, contract academic workers at the University of Toronto. We are looking for someone willing to commit to a democratic union culture while working full-time (40 hours per week) under the supervision of the Executive Director and in close collaboration with a diverse membership and an annually elected Executive Committee.

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ employment experience as an organizer; proven track record with planning and

    implementing campaigns, member-mobilization strategies and organizing drives

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of member-driven organizing teams; ability to

    independently develop contacts and leads which result in organizing campaigns

  • Experience with union/activist training & education that is grounded in anti-oppressive practice

  • Thorough knowledge of workers’ rights and labour law

  • Understanding of the political, structural and labour issues faced by academic workers

  • Research skills in the fields of labour law, union organizing and member-mobilization strategies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (media relations, web and graphic design)

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the grievance process

  • Post-graduate degree preferred

Duties 

  • Member mobilization and education: assist Local officers, councils, committees and caucuses plan and carry

    out member-mobilization, campaign and educational initiatives

  • Bargaining/strike support: assist with planning and implementing single or multi-unit mobilization strategies

    prior to the expiration of Local collective agreements; provide logistical support and coordination for members

    in the event of a strike/lockout

  • Research and preparation: assist Local officers, councils, committees and caucuses with researching and

    developing member-mobilizing strategies

  • Organizing drives: responsible for planning and overseeing the organization of new bargaining units

CUPE 3902 is a unionised employer with a competitive wage and benefit package. This position is salaried and pays $107,718.49/annum, increasing to $114,181.59/annum upon the successful completion of the six-month probationary period.
