Position Title: Member Organizer
Position Type: 12-month contract
Workplace Location: 374-376 Bathurst Street with frequent location work at the St. George, Scarborough and Mississauga campuses of the University of Toronto
Job Starts: September 2025
CUPE 3902 is the trade union representing more than 11,000 part-time, contract academic workers at the University of Toronto. We are looking for someone willing to commit to a democratic union culture while working full-time (40 hours per week) under the supervision of the Executive Director and in close collaboration with a diverse membership and an annually elected Executive Committee.
Qualifications
Experience with member-mobilization campaigns and organizing drives
Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of member-driven organizing teams; ability to independently develop contacts and leads which result in organizing campaigns
Understanding of workers’ rights and labour law
Ability to conduct research, which special consideration given to experience in labour law, union organizing and member-mobilization strategies
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Member in good standing of CUPE 3902
Duties
Attend weekly campaign meetings
Assist in organizing small- and medium-size worker meetings
Moving workers to action to sign union cards
Coordinate small group of part-time and casual member mobilizers
Assisting in developing and facilitating information sessions
Assist in developing and distributing campaign literature
Conduct research on union organizing workers’ rights, and labour law
Report to a lead organizer
Provide progress reports on turf
Attend meetings of the Local as required
Execute GOTV (get-out-the-vote) campaign
Attend and participate in organizer trainings as required
Assist in training and supporting part-time and casual member mobilizers.

This position is salaried and pays $71,136.00/annum, inclusive of 4% vacation pay.
