CUPE 3902 is building its organizational capacity to allow for casual, union-service opportunities for political members of the Local to support its ongoing contract negotiations! The CUPE 3902 Executive Committee is looking to hire one (1) member beginning in September 2026 through December 2026, or until a Tentative Agreement is ratified.

Campaign Communications Coordinator:

This position focuses on developing and implementing the communications strategy for the 2026-2027 Coordinated Bargaining Campaign involving CUPE Locals 3902, 1230, 2484, and 3261. Candidates must be members in good standing of CUPE 3902 and can be from any unit of the local.

Tasks include:

  • Supporting the activities of the Coordinated Bargaining Campaign and its committees, under the direction of the Local’s Executive Committee, staff, and campaign coordinators.

  • Attending biweekly coordinated bargaining campaign meetings and other relevant campaign or membership meetings.

  • Chairing meetings of the Communications Committee, including conducting meeting preparation (drafting agendas), follow-up (delegating tasks and setting action items), and report back to other committees on ongoing tasks and action items.

  • With the Communications Committee, creating and circulating information (print, digital, video, etc.) about the bargaining campaign and the bargaining process, including print and online bargaining bulletins, pamphlets, and posters.

  • Regularly updating social media accounts and campaign website with relevant materials.

  • Working with Communications Committee to compile stories and testimonials of worker-members of CUPE locals at U of T.

  • Seeding stories with local and national media (television, internet/newspaper, radio).

  • Developing campaign talking points to be used by members, officers, and staff.

  • Prepping spokespeople/speakers in advance of rallies and interviews.

The successful candidate for Campaign Communications Coordinator will have excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and public speaking skills, with experience in media analysis and creative design. Basic knowledge of and proficiency in Canva (or similar‍ graphic design platform), Squarespace (or similar web publishing platform), and social media platforms are critical. Familiarity with Organizing4Power or equivalent labour organizing training is strongly preferred.

‍For the completion of duties associated with the position, the Campaign Communications Officer will be paid a monthly honorarium between September 1 and December 31, 2026, calculated at the rate of $30/hour for ten (10) hours per week, with the possibility of extension. The Executive Committee reserves the right to end the contract if duties and expectations are not being met.
