University College Writing Workshop

2008-2009
Writing Instructor Position Available, CUPE Unit 3
University College Writing Workshop, University of Toronto

The University College Writing Workshop invites applications for up to eight writing instructor positions.  The positions will commence September 2008.  (One position may include some duties in August).

The chief duty of instructors at the Writing Workshop is to counsel students individually on university writing, especially on organization, reasoning, style, and language use.  Instructors may also be asked to prepare instructional material, to deliver group instruction, and to assist in college program courses.

The UC Writing Workshop encourages applicants with relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one or teaching in university courses with a writing component.  Previous experience in a writing centre is no essential, although such experience would be a strong advantage, as would training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level.  Experience studying or teaching science would be an asset.  The UC Writing Workshop favours applicants with a commitment to remaining in the position of writing instructor beyond one year.

These positions are open to suitably qualified applicants with a completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution.  They will consist of at least 60 hours.  All five positions are subject to budgetary approval.  The current rate of pay starts at $40/hour for Writing Instructor I and $43/hour for Writing Instructor II, plus vacation pay.

To be considered for a position, please send a completed application form along with a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and a brief (one- or two-page) writing sample to:
