Salary: Sessional Lecturer 1: $6,500 Sessional Lecturer 2: $7,000
Dates of Appointment: September 1 - December 31, 2008
Duties: Duties include course preparation, lecturing, marking, supervision of TA(s) in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement. There will be 26 hours of lectures in this course and one office hour per teaching week.
The course offered in the 2008-09 academic year is the first offering of a new 300-level course in 'History and Historical Method', the design of which is prescribed by the Department. As a result, the instructor will be required to prepare the course according to the guidelines prepared by the Department and available online: http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/history/faculty/index.html. These guidelines prescribe the overall organization of course lectures and tutorials and the assignments to be employed. The lecturer will work together with the TA on the design and delivery of tutorials. The lecturer will also employ periodic evaluations of the particular sections of the course, and a final evaluation that asks students for their suggested improvements to the design of the course.
Qualification: PhD in History is preferred. We are seeking applicants with proven experience in teaching, proven teaching excellence and mastery of the subject area. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable and previous experience or training with Blackboard is an asset.
