1. Job Description: CIE 1001: Introduction to Comparative, International and Development Education
2. Course Description: This course serves as the basic core course for the Institute's graduate studies concentration in comparative, international, and development education. It focuses upon the various theoretical conceptions of the socioeconomic development process and the role of formal and non-formal educational programs within that process. The basic purposes of the course are to introduce students to the comparative literature regarding education in advanced and developing nations, to evaluate the various ways in which comparative data may be used, and to examine the relative utility of various theoretical perspectives for understanding formal and non-formal educational policy problems common to many societies. This course introduces students to recent theory and research in the field of Comparative, International and Development Education. Students produce a review of secondary literature on their own topic in the field.

5. Class schedule: Wednesday, 9:30am to 12:30pm
6. Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 to April 30, 2008
7. Salary: Base rate for half course of $6,275 (inclusive of vacation pay)
8. Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctorate in relevant discipline, some evidence of published scholarship demonstrating expertise in this area and at least 10 years of experience in teaching and research in the field of comparative, international and development education. Preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in the area.
9. Duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this half-course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.
