Course Number & Title: CIE1001H Introduction to Comparative, International and Development Education

Estimated Enrolment: 24 maximum

TA Support: None

Class Schedule: Mondays 1:00-4:00pm
First class is Sept. 8th

Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have:
1. Doctorate degree in Comparative Education or related field
2. At least 15-20 years of teaching experience within the field of comparative education at the graduate level.

Duties: Instructors are required to:
1.  Teach minimum of 36 hour course (12 three-hour sessions)
2.  Update current syllabus and materials for the class
3.  Assess and evaluate students' work and provide a final course grade according to OISE grading practices
4.  Be available for informal meetings/communications with students as necessary.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course serves as the basic core coures for the OISE graduate studies concentration in comparative, international and development education.  It focuses upon the various theoretical conceptions of the socio-economic development process and the role of formal and non-formal education programs within that process.  The basic purpose of the course is to introduce students to the comparative literature regarding education in advanced and developing nations, to evaluate the various ways in which comparative data may be used, and to examine the relative utility of various theoretical perspectives for understanding formal and non-formal education policy problems common to many societies.
