Sessional Lecturer Position (Unit 3)
Fall/Winter Term 2007-2008
POSITION POSTING
The African Studies Program seeks a course instructor from September 1, 2007 – April 30, 2008* to teach the following course:
NEW252Y1Y – AFRICAN SYSTEMS OF THOUGHT
NEW252Y1Y – The exploration of a range of African cosmologies, epistemologies, and theologies, as well as specific case studies on justice, the moral order, and gender relations. The influence of these richly diverse traditions is traced as well in the writings of African thinkers in the diaspora.
Enrolment Estimate: 50 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Wilson Hall, room 524
Salary: $12,550 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $13,550 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note that the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience preferred.
Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
Responsibilities
- Planning and teaching weekly lectures
- Providing office hours for academic counseling of students
- Marking and grading assignments
