COURSE NAME: Social and Cultural Anthropology
Estimated ENROLMENT: 500
BASIC DUTIES: All duties associated with teaching an undergraduate course, including the supervision of any assigned TA support, and the completion of any course work and grading not completed by April 30, 2008.
General Course Description: Basic approaches to the understanding of social and cultural organization in societies of varying complexity. Comparative social institutions: economic, political, familial, and ritual. Belief systems and symbolic thought, the individual in society, sources of stability and change in socio-cultural systmes. Recommended preparation: ANT100Y1
Estimate of TA Support: 6.5 positions (280 hours each)
Dates of Appointments: September 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008
Class Schedule: Wednesdays 6-8, classes begin September 10 and end April 11
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Anthropology
- Experience teaching Social/Cultural Anthropology
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Salary: $12,550 for Sessional Lecturer I and $13,550 for Sessional Lecturer II.

COURSE NAME: Environment and Globalization
Estimated ENROLMENT: 160
BASIC DUTIES: All duties associated with teaching an undergraduate course, including the supervision of any assigned TA support, and the completion of any course work and grading not completed by April 30, 2008.
General Course Description: This course will examine the relationships between humans and their environment in the context of contemporary efforts to "develop" within or in opposition to the political economy of neoliberal globalization. We will critically examine international law and policy that purports to protect the environment paying particular attention to the question of how and why environmental issues have entered the global political arena. Using case studies, we will examine the relationship between environmental and human rights and between local and global interests. Prerequisite: ANT 204Y
Estimate of TA Support: 2 positions (280 hours each)
