POSITIONS IN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

Fall/Winter 2007-08

The following positions for Sessional Lecturers are available in the Department of Social Sciences, IDS Discipline for the 2007-08 academic sessions. This posting is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 (Unit 3). Salary: in accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $ 6,275.00 for a half course (F or S) inclusive of vacation pay. The Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $6,525.00 for a half course (F or S) inclusive of vacation pay.

Classes run:

F courses: September 3 - December 21, 2007

S courses: January 7 - May 2, 2007

Contract dates:

Fall 2007: September 1 - December 31, 2007

Winter 2008: January 1 - April 30, 2008

Note: all positions involve completion of any course grading not finished by April 30, 2008.

Course Number/Title/Description: IDSC04H3, Project Management 1 (Fall term)

Studies of the phases of the project management cycle with emphasis on situational analysis and identification of needs, project implementation, project monitoring and evaluation. Examines basic organizational development, the role of Canadian non-governmental organizations engaged in the delivery of development assistance as well as with CIDA’s policies and practices.

Time: THUR 9-11

Estimated Enrolment: 70

Estimated T.A. Hours: 60

Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours. Supervising TAs assigned to course.

Qualifications: PhD. in hand or near completion. Preference will be given to applicants who have taught at UTSC, either as a teaching faculty or as a teaching assistant.

Course Number/Title/Description: IDSC07H3, Project Management 11 (Winter term)

A case study approach building on Project Management 1. Examines: the art of effective communication and negotiation, visioning, participatory and rapid rural appraisal; survey design and implementation; advanced financial management and budgeting; basic bookkeeping and spreadsheet design; results based management; environmental impact assessments; cross-cultural effectiveness; and gender and development.
