The following jobs are posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement

Closing Date: June 5, 2007

Subject to budgetary approval and staffing considerations, the Department for the Study of Religion, University of Toronto invites applications from individuals interested in teaching the following courses during the 2007-08 academic year. Applicants should submit

  1. a current curriculum vitae,
  2. an outline of the course, method of evaluation, and required textbook(s),
  3. evidence of teaching ability (e.g., summarized course evaluations, letters of reference, etc.) and
  4. a CUPE application form available here

GENERAL CRITERIA FOR UNIT 3 HIRING CAN BE FOUND ON THE WEBSITE

RLG301H1F Sigmund Freud on Religion Thursday 6-8pm

Systematic analysis of Freud's main writings on religion, studied within the context of central concepts and issues in psychoanalysis such as: the Oedipus Complex, the meaning and function of symbols, the formation of the ego and the superego, and the relations between the individual and culture. This course is a prerequisite of RLG 211Y.

Sessional Appointment Dates: September 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007

Enrollment Cap: 50

Estimated TA Hours: none

Salary: $6,275 Sessional Lecturer I and $6,775 Sessional Lecturer II

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Religion or Psychology.
  • Significant graduate work, publications, and/or participation in learned societies in the field of psychology of religion.
  • Teaching and/or TA experience in RLG 211Y, RLG 301H, 302H or equivalent courses.

Please note: Undergraduate, or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.

Duties: Include presenting two hours of lectures a week; conducting tutorials; grading papers and exams (including make-up examinations if required); and other pedagogical and administrative tasks associated with an undergraduate course. This position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by December 31, 2007.

RLG302H1S Carl Jung's Theory on Religion Thursday 6-8pm

Jung's analysis of the development of the personality through its life cycle, and of the central place with religion holds within the process of maturation. This includes a study of the unconscious, the collective unconscious, dreams, myths, symbols and archetypes. Readings and evaluation methods will be announced in class. This course is a prerequisite of RLG 211Y.

Sessional Appointment Dates: January 1, 2008 - April 30, 2008.

  • Significant graduate work, publications, and/or participation in learned societies in the field of psychology of religion.
  • Teaching and/or TA experience in RLG 211Y, RLG 301H, 302H or equivalent courses.

RLG3231H1F Jesus of Nazareth Tuesday 6-8pm

Critical examination of the earliest accounts of Jesus, with intensive study of the gospels. Problems in reconstructing a "life" of Jesus; methodogical issues; recent studies of the historical Jesus; chronological, geographical, social, political, religious issues.

Sessional Appointment Dates: September 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007

Salary: $6,275 Sessional Lecturer I and $6,775 Sessional Lecturer II

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Religion or equivalent.
  • Significant graduate work, publications, and/or participation in learned societies in the field of Christian Origins,
  • Competence in the study of the Synoptic gospels.
  • Knowledge of classical or Koine Greek is mandatory.
  • Teaching and/or TA experience in RLG 241Y, RLG 323H, 324H or equivalent courses is an asset.
