Sessional Lecturer Position (Unit 3)
Winter Term 2008
POSITION POSTING
The Caribbean Studies Program seeks a sessional lecturer from January 1, 2008 – April 30, 2008* to teach the following course:
NEW327H1S – THE HISPANIC CARIBBEAN: Race, Religion and Revolution in Cuban History and Culture
NEW327H1S – Examines Cubas relevance and legacy from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Explores the tensions of Cuban life in counterpoint with its creative rendering in the arts and literature, through a variety of fresh approaches in fields such as cultural studies, historical sociology, anthropology, and sociology of religion. Note: this course is cross-listed with Latin American Studies as LAS302H1S
Enrolment Estimate: 50 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Wednesdays 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Wilson Hall, room 523.
Salary: $6,275 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $6,775 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience at the university level preferred.
Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.

NEW223Y1Y – CARIBBEAN LITERATURE AND SOCIETY
NEW223Y1Y – A study of Caribbean writers of fiction, poetry and drama, drawn from the major linguistic and racial/cultural groups in the region. Works are analyzed as literary texts and within the contexts of social and political life in which the writing is situated.
Enrolment Estimate: 45 students

Class Schedule: Wednesdays 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wilson Hall, room 524.
Salary: $12,550 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $13,550 (Sessional Lecturer II)
