An introduction to key issues in the study of organized crime and corruption. Topics to be covered include: the definition, nature, extent and impact of organized crime, both in Canada and globally; theories of organized crime; the natuer of organized crime groups and organized criminal activities; and law enforcement strategies and tools to control organized crime. Prerequisite: WDW 200Y1, 220Y1
Estimated enrolment: 50 students
Estimated TA support: 140 TA hours
Class Schedule: Tuesday 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Sessional dates of appointment: 1 September 2007 to 31 December 2007
Please note that the position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by 31 December 2007.
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $6275 including vacation pay; Sessional Lecturer II - $6775 including vacation pay
Qualifications: A completed Ph.D. in Criminology or Sociology is preferable. However, completion of the doctoral requirements except the dissertation (ABD) is acceptable. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Proven teaching excellence and mastery of subject area. Familiarity with the content of WDW 390H is preferable. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable.
Duties: The design, preparation and delivery of course content, including teaching lectures or seminars; creation of course ware; the development and administration of assignments, tests, and examinations; invigilation of the final examination; the marking and grading of student work, and the submission of grades to the College in accordance with established policies and procedures; the maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside scheduled classroom hours; and the supervision of the day-to-day work of teaching assistants assigned to the course.

Development of recruitment strategies, assessment of applications for employment, conducting the interview of candidates, and the role of testing and measurement of competencies in making the hiring decision. Prerequisite: WDW 260H1
