POSITION POSTING
The New College Writing Centre invites applications for approximately five writing instructor positions for the 2007-08 Fall/Winter Session. These positions will begin in September 2007 and continue through April 2008. Positions will consist of between 220 and 320 hours.
These positions involve providing one-to-one writing instruction to undergraduate students working in a variety of disciplines, including academic programs housed at New College, see website. Writing instructors teach critical analysis, critical reading, modes of argument, research skills, methods of drafting and revising texts, and for preparing oral presentations.
Two positions will include facilitation of second language learning groups for multilingual first-year students. These groups will focus on the development of analytical, writing and oral presentation skills in a supportive environment. Curricular materials will be available. Approximately 40 hours.
Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to teach academic writing and critical skills in a one-to-one mode and across a variety of disciplines, including New College programs.
- At least a completed Master's degree.
- Previous experience teaching writing at the university level, either in a writing centre or in courses with significant writing components.
- Skills in group facilitation and workshop delivery.
- A well-developed and reflective pedagogy for teaching writing to students from diverse backgrounds, including multilingual students.
- The ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a highly collaborative teaching environment.
- Knowledge of forms of writing in New College programs, including writing in the sciences, would be an asset.
The current starting rate of pay is $38.46 per hour plus vacation pay.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
