Fall Term 2007
The Equity Studies Program seeks a course instructor from September 1 - December 31, 2007* to teach the following course:
NEW444H1F Social Change and Non-Violence
NEW444H1F - Examines theories and practices that promote the building of cooperative, non-violent communities. Grounded in a series of historical cases studies, including the Sri Lankan Sarvodaya movement, the course critically considers Gandhian principles and the ways in which these have been translated into collective action.
Enrolment Estimate: 20 students
Class Schedule: Thursdays 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wetmore Hall, room 51C
Salary: $6,275 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $6,775 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by December 31.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed PhD (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience at the University level preferred.
Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and teaching weekly lectures
- Providing office hours for academic counseling of students
- Marking and grading assignments

Winter Term 2008
The Equity Studies Program seeks a sessional lecturer from January 1 - April 30, 2008* to teach the following course:
NEW342H1S SPECIAL TOPICS IN EQUITY STUDIES: RESEARCH PRACTICUM ON FOOD SECURITY
NEW342H1S - This course introduces senior undergraduates to research methods useful in the development of food security programs. Students develop and carry out a food security project to learn about the way food security professionals conduct themselves in program development.
Enrolment Estimate: 8 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Thursdays 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wetmore Hall, room 51C

NEW343H1S THE ROMANI DIASPORA IN CANADA
NEW343H1S - A study of Romani history and culture through theories on the origins and diaspora of the Roma. Examines historic and current equity issues facing the Roma people (particularly newcomers) in Canada from c1890 to the present.
Enrolment Estimate: 29 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Tuesdays 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wilson Hall, room 2008
Salary: $6,275 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $6,775 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed PhD (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience preferred.
Note: Graduate Students who are currently registered in a PhD program at the University of Toronto are members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and are not eligible to apply for this position.
