Job Posting for 2007/2008 Session

Position: Sessional Lecturer I/II (2 sections)

Course title and code: MIE258H1 F: Engineering Economics and Accounting

Course description: This course focuses on engineering economic and accounting concepts needed in the design of industrial engineering systems. They include time value of money, evaluation of cash flows, cost and managerial accounting concepts, defining alternatives, acceptance criteria, replacement analysis, depreciation and income tax, sensitivity and decision analysis, buy or lease, make or buy, production functions and relationship to cost functions.

Estimated enrolment: Approximately 150 per section.

Estimated TA support: 21 hours total per week (tentative)

Class Schedule:

Lectures: 3 hours/week for each Section; timetable to be determined

Tutorial: 1 hour/week for each Section; timetable to be determined

Sessional date of appointment: Fall session, September - December 2007

Salary: Minimum level of pay is $5,750 (Sessional Lecturer I) and $6,250 (Sessional Lecturer II). The successful applicant may be paid at a higher level, depending on level of experience and suitability for the position.

Qualifications: A university degree in economics, commerce, management business administration, or a related field. Substantial teaching experience with large classes in a university setting would be a strong asset. Experience with teaching the material listed in the course description to engineers would be a strong asset.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.

Brief description of duties: Full responsibility for designing and delivering lectures, in accordance with the posted course description. Direction of Teaching Assistants, and ultimate responsibility for the tutorials. Setting of all tests, examination, and other methods of student evaluation as appropriate. Ultimate responsibility for submission of final grades to the Registrar's Office. Grading of final examinations, and ultimate responsibility for the grading of all other means of student evaluation. Available to students through regular office hours.
