Title: Chemical Thermodynamics and Elementary Kinetics
Course Description: The concept of chemical potential: phase equilibria; solutions; chemical equilibria (including electrochemical applications); elementary reactions; multi-step and coupled reactions (with biochemical applications); elementary collision theory and TST.

Course Description: The scientific method and its application to natural systems. The physical and biological processes which drive ecosystem functions. Anthropogenic changes in ecosystem functions at local and global scales. Emphasis on the degredation of the atmosphere, soil, water and biological resources caused by human activity. Renewable and non-renewable resource sustainability.

Title: Environmental Hazards
Course Description: This course is an investigation of the geological background and possible solutions to major hazards in the environment. Environmental hazards to be studied include: landslides, erosion, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, asteroid impacts, flooding, glaciation, future climate change, subsidence, and the disposal of toxic wastes. This may be of interest to a wide range of students in the life, social, and physical sciences; an opportunity for a non-specialist to understand headline-making geological events of topical interest. No prior knowledge of the Earth Sciences is required.

Title: Mineralogy and Petrology
Course Description: This course provides an overview of common mineral and rock types and the methods for describing and identifying them. The fundamentals of crystal structure will be reviewed and used as a basis for mineralogical classification. Simple microscopic techniques for mineral identification and the mineralogy and origin of the more common sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rock types are presented. This course is necessary for those students who wish to seek professional registration as a Professional Geoscientist in Ontario.

Title: Vibrations and Waves
Course Description: We introduce the concept of Waves in general and some of its applications. It covers the following topics: Harmonic oscillation including forced and camped oscillation: Fourier Series; Hamilton Principle and Lagrange Dynamics; Continuous Systems (waves); Energy Transfer and Electromagnetic waves.

Note: Hiring Criteria includes, but is not limited to, emphasis on teaching excellence, ability to teach course material, academic qualifications, and past teaching experience. Preference in hiring will be given to current University of Toronto students pursuant to Article 15 of the CUPE Local 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Pay Rates are in accordance with Article 21 CUPE Local 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Decisions for appointments are usually made a few weeks before the start of each semester. Final availability of positions is contingent upon course enrolment numbers and budgetary considerations. Hiring will be governed by the regulations outline the CUPE Local 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.

Salary: The Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $6,275.00 for a half course (F or S) inclusive of vacation pay. Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $6,775.00 for a half course (F or S) inclusive of vacation pay.
