DRM201Y1 Voice and Movement for Actors 1 (Voice Component)
The voice component, taken in conjunction with DRM200Y1: Introduction to Performance. Work consists of both theory and practice of voice as they relate to the development of the actor. Co-requisite: DRM 200Y1
Estimated Course Enrollment: up to 35 students

Class Schedule: Wed 11am–3:30pm & Tutorials: Thurs 2pm-5:00pm
Dates of Appointment: September 1 2007 – April 30 2008. This position includes the completion of any grading that remains incomplete by April 30.
Salary: $12, 550 Sessional Lecturer I, $13, 550 Sessional Lecturer II
Qualifications: An MFA in Acting or equivalent combination of education and experience. A diploma in voice teaching/training from an accredited institution. Minimum 6 years acting, teaching experience with a notable theatre company or institution.
Description of Duties: Teaching an advanced voice class; utilizing various theoretical and practical methods. Directing the voice class to understand and utilize more advanced techniques. Developing methodologies for bringing voice and movement together in actor training and applying the practice of Authentic Movement to explore the sensory/kinesthetic relationship to the spoken word. Supervise tests and exams. Monthly progression reports for all students. Participate in annual progression meetings, held at the end of the school year.

DRM328H1 The Art and Craft of Playwriting
A hands-on study of the craft of dramatic writing. The class examines the basic elements of playwriting such as plot, structure, theme, character, dialogue, setting, with an emphasis on storymaking. Attention is given to the development of students’ own work through written assignments and in-class exercises. Pre- or co-requisite: Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor

This course deals mainly with advanced performance techniques. Previous courses dealt with ensemble, non-verbal, improvisational work and their application. Students have also covered scene studies. Scenes are developed through analysis of text and sub-text, the establishing of scene objectives, improvisation, and physical action.
