Sessional Lecturer Job Postings

SOC303H1 Family Demography

This course describes the political, social and economic implications of diversity in family structure. It uses empirical studies in the sociological tradition to describe current trends in living arrangements and family relationships. It examines social and economic consequences of the inconsistencies between public definitions and the reality of family life.

Estimated enrollment: enrollment is capped at 90 students

Estimated TA support: 90 hours

Class Schedule: R 6-8

Dates of appointment: September 1st, 2007- December 31st, 2007*

*Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by December 31, 2007.

Salary: $5,750 per FCE Sessional Lecturer I, $6,250 per FCE Sessional Lecturer 2

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Sociology (or the equivalent).
  • University level teaching experience
  • Excellence in teaching

Description of duties: The Sessional Lecturer in SOC303H1F is responsible for the preparation of the course syllabus, the preparation and presentation of course material. It is the duty of the Sessional Lecturer to attend regularly scheduled office hours. Sessional Lecturers are responsible for supervising the work of TA’s assigned to this course; for preparing and evaluating course assignments, term tests, and the final examination; and for submitting final marks in accordance with University deadlines.

This course describes women’s paid and unpaid work and the relationship between the two. Questions about gender gap in earnings, sexual segregation of the labour force, restructuring of paid work, sexual harassment, paid domestic work, and the division of housework and child care. Prerequisite: SOC101Y1
