This seminar is intended to expose students in the Sexual Diversity Studies program to topics may not be covered by permanent university courses. Applicants are invited to submit with their application a proposal for a half course including readings, assignments and a detailed explanation of the topic and goals of the course. Particular attention will be paid to proposals that differ significantly from courses already offered in Sexual Diversity Studies.

Pre-requisite: UNI 255H1/UNI 256H1 OR permission of instructor

Estimated Course Enrollment: up to 45 students

Estimated Teaching Assistant Support: 0

Class Schedule: Thursdays, 6-9pm

Dates of Appointment: September 1 – December 31, 2007 or January 1- April 30, 2008. This position includes the completion of any grading

Salary: $5,750 Sessional Lecturer I, $6,250 Sessional Lecturer II

Qualifications: Minimum M.A., Ph.D. preferred; experience teaching in a university environment; and a relevant background in sexuality studies.

Description of Duties: Duties include the design of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours

An overview of the points where sexuality and law intersect, through surveying ways of thinking about how law interrupts, regulate and defines sexuality, and how communities and groups oppressed on the basis of sexuality fare under the law of Canada and elsewhere.

Pre-requisite: POL 315H1/UNI 255H1/UNI 256H1 or permission of instructor.

An interdisciplinary examination of sexuality across cultures and periods. How are sexualities represented? How are they suppressed or celebrated? How and why are they labeled as straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, or perverse? How do sexualities change with ethnicity, class, and gender?

An integrated survey of some ways in which sexuality has been theorized recently. How have desire and its identities been conceptualized and deployed? What are the implications for psychoanalysis, feminism, and cultural production? What interconnecting are yet to be made between sexuality and the markers of gender, race, and class?
