Engineering Communication Program - continuous posting

The Engineering Communication Program may hire sessional lecturers to teach written and oral communication in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. Specific positions will be posted on the Engineering Communication Centre website. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to develop and support an integrated communication program for the undergraduate, and possibly graduate, engineering student population. The main duties of sessional lecturers include teaching courses or parts of courses where written or oral communication is a major component, teaching small group workshops within engineering courses, teaching workshops, and tutoring students on engineering writing, including any of the following depending on the particular skills of the candidate: technical communication, communication and design, oral communication, human factors, project management, thesis writing and professional writing.
The Engineering Communication Program encourages applications from those with relevant experience teaching writing in university courses and working with engineers. Qualified applicants will possess at least a Master’s degree in a field of Technical Communication or related area such as Rhetoric, Second Language Education, Applied Linguistics, Professional Communication, or English. Other valuable assets include the ability to work in team-teaching contexts, experience working with engineers and experience tutoring one-to-one or teaching Second Language at the university level.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Generally speaking, we make decision concerning Fall and Winter courses in August and for Summer courses in March and May. However, some decisions may be made earlier or later than these time frames depending on circumstances or unexpected vacancies.
Applications will be retained for twelve (12) months. Persons who submit applications will receive e-mailed job postings for specific postions for the subsequent twelve months.
This notice is posted pursuant to the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Please note that in accordance with that agreement, preference in hiring is given to qualified persons holding the rank of Sectional Lecturer II.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
