Woodsworth Writing Centre - regular postings
2005-2006 Writing Instructor Positions Available, CUPE Unit 3
The Woodsworth College Academic Writing Centre invites applications for five (5) Writing Instructor positions. These eight-month part-time positions will commence September 2005.
The chief duty of instructors in the Writing Centre is to tutor students individually on university writing in all disciplines, especially on response to the assigned topic, use of sources, organization, argumentation, style, and proficiency with language. Instructors may also tutor students on study skills such as time management, note-taking, and test and exam preparation. Instructors’ contracts may include hours for delivering workshops on writing and study skills in Woodsworth’s Get Smart program, or hours assigned for the development of pedagogical materials.
The Woodsworth Academic Writing Centre encourages applicants with relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one and/or teaching in university courses with a significant writing instruction component; having both kinds of experience would be a strong advantage.
Familiarity with Woodsworth College’s specific programs and student body would be an asset, as would training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level. Woodsworth College favours applicants with a long-term commitment to writing centre teaching.
These positions are open to suitably qualified applicants with a completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution. They will consist of at least 160 hours. All five positions are subject to budgetary approval. The current starting rate of pay is $35.00 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay.
To be considered for a position, please send an application letter, a Unit 3 application form (available online), a curriculum vitae, the names of three referees, and a short writing sample (maximum four pages) to:
