Sessional Lecturer Position

Fall/Winter Term 2005

POSITION POSTING

The Paradigms and Archetypes Program seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2005 – April 30, 2006* to teach the following course:

NEW301Y1Y – ANALOGY AND ITS RITUALS

NEW301Y1Y – Issues of rhetorical proof, analysis and interpretation in open (alogical) systems; mediation and the media; the scandal of chaos; motives for metaphor; custom and culture; anatomies of reason; idea and ideology.

Enrolment Estimate: 29 students

Estimated TA Support: None

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and Thursdays 10:00 a.m., Wilson Hall, room 2008

Salary: $11,500 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $12,500 (Sessional Lecturer II)

*Please note that the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience preferred.

Note: Graduate Students who are currently registered in a Ph.D. Program at the University of Toronto are members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and are not eligible to apply for this position.

Responsibilities

·Planning and teaching weekly lectures ·Providing office hours for academic counseling of students ·Marking and grading assignments

NEW402Y1Y – ADVANCED SPECIAL TOPICS IN PARADIGMS & ARCHETYPES: “THEORIES AND APPLICATIONS OF BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY”

NEW402Y1Y - The intersection of Buddhist and Western theories of psychology, phenomenology and psychotherapy. The growing influence of Buddhist psychology on Western psychological science. This course will survey Buddhist psychology and point out parallels in the Western psychological literature. Where relevant, empirical research will be presented. Both the commonalities and divergences between Buddhist and Western psychology will be discussed.

Enrolment Estimate: 19 students
