Sessional Lecturer Position, Fall/Winter Term 2005-2006
The African Studies Program seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2005 – April 30, 2006* to teach the following course:
**NEW380Y1Y – INTERMEDIATE SWAHILI**
NEW380Y1Y – Grammar and syntax. Conversation and written composition. Reading of texts: literary, journalistic. Relation of the language to its East African context.
Enrolment Estimate: 30 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wetmore Hall, room 51A
Salary: $11,500 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $12,500 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note that exams may be held in May and the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching experience preferred.
Note: Graduate Students who are currently registered in a Ph.D. Program at the University of Toronto are members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and are not eligible to apply for this position.
Responsibilities
·Planning and teaching weekly lectures
·Providing office hours for academic counseling of students
·Marking and grading assignments

**NEW252H1F – AFRICAN SYSTEMS OF THOUGHT**
NEW252H1F – The exploration of a range of African cosmologies, epistemologies, and theologies, as well as specific case studies on justice, the moral order, and gender relations. The influence of these richly diverse traditions is traced as well in the writings of African thinkers in the diaspora.

Salary: $5,575 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $6,250 (Sessional Lecturer II)
