PHL 243F, Philosophy of Human Sexuality, T 6-9 p.m.

Philosophical issues about sex and sexual identity in the light of biological, psychological and ethical theories of sex and gender; the concept of gender; male and female sex roles; "perverse" sex; sexual liberation; love and sexuality.

Sept. 1 –Dec. 31, 2005

Estimated Enrolment: 200

Estimated TA support: 205 [TA hours = (enrolment -30) x 1.2]

Salary: $5750 (Sessional Lecturer I) $6,250 (Sessional Lecturer II)

Qualifications: PhD in philosophy is preferred, but applicants who have completed all the course work requirements for a PhD in philosophy will also be considered. (Note: Graduate students who are currently registered in a PhD program at the University of Toronto are members of CUPE Local 3902 Unit 1, and are not eligible to apply for this position.) We are seeking previous experience in teaching, teaching excellence, and mastery of subject area. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable.

Duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; supervision of teaching assistants; preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, and examination; marking of student; work; submission of grades to university official; reasonable student contact hours.

PHL 321S, Heidegger, M 6-9 p.m.

Some work from the 1920’s either Being and Time or contemporary lectures) and selections from Heidegger’s later work on poetry, technology, and history are studied. Heidegger’s position within phenomenology and within the broader history of thought is charted.

A sequel to PHL245H1, developing skills in quantificational logic and treating of definite descriptions. The system developed is used to study a selection of the following topics: philosophical uses of logic, formal systems, set theory, non-classical logics, and metalogic.
