SESSIONAL LECTURER 2005-2006 Fall/Winter Session: September 1, 2005 – April 30, 2006
NEW369Y: Studies in Post-Colonialism
Gendered representations of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and disability in a variety of colonial, neo-colonial, and "post"-colonial contexts. Topics may include the emergence of racialist, feminist, liberatory and neoconservative discourses as inscribed in literary texts, historical documents, cultural artifacts and mass media.
Enrolment Estimate: 40 students
Estimated TA Support: None
Class Schedule: Mondays, 2-5PM, Wetmore Hall, Rm. 52
Salary: $11,500 (Sessional Lecturer I) - $12, 500 (Sessional Lecturer II)
*Please note that exams may be held in May and the position includes the completion of any course grading not finished by April 30.
Qualifications: Preferably candidates will have a completed, or nearly completed, Ph.D. with a scholarly background in areas related to the specific course. Teaching Experience preferred. Note: Graduate Students who are currently registered in a PhD program at the University of Toronto are members of CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and are not eligible to apply for this position.

A critical feminist reading of selected works of fiction, poetry and essays by Caribbean women writers. The aim is to appraise the development of this literature, situate texts within the key social and political debates which have influenced the region's literary output, as well as to consider the implications of the environments within which these writers function.
