Important SL Advancement Process Update
Recently, CUPE 3902 and Labour Relations have reached an agreement which resolves two important issues: the issue of when members begin to receive the increase in pay associated with advancement, and the timing of the completion of the advancement process.

Cancellation of Language Courses and Programs at UTSC
The Vice-Principal and Dean at UTSC (Scarborough College), Rick Halpern, has just announced plans to cancel all undergraduate courses in Tamil, Sanskrit, Latin, Japanese and Arabic beginning immediately with the Summer 2010 Semester. Spanish courses and introductory French courses will be cancelled starting September 2010. The CUPE 3902 Executive Committee has written to him to express our shock and dismay at this decision and are calling on our allies in CAUT and CUPE to contribute letters of their own.
First Nations University threatened with funding cutoff
After making a commitment to address governance problems at the First Nations University of Canada, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations has learned that the federal government plans to cease its annual $7.2 million grant to the University, effectively shutting the FNUC down as of March 31. CUPE 3902 joins CAUT in lobbying for restoration of funding to this important Canadian university.
HCSA Change - all units!
As of March 4, 2010 teeth whitening will no longer be covered under any of the Health Care Spending Accounts (HCSA) due to changes in the federal budget.
Advancement Information for Unit 3 members
The deadline for submitting applications for early initiation into SLII is Monday, February 1, 2010. Please note that you need only to submit a letter to the Chair of the prospective advancing Department at this time. Also, if you reached the qualifications threshold for advancement prior to this academic year, you may be eligible for early initiation, and should apply by Feb. 1st if you wish to be considered.
