Letters to President Naylor re: March 20 Simcoe Hall sit-in

CUPE 3902 wrote and sent a letter of concern to UofT President David Naylor before the recent round of charges were brought against participants in the March 20 sit-in. We also co-signed a joint letter of protest after the charges along with many other campus trade unions.

Employment Insurance

Most Sessional Lecturers or Course Instructors who have taught at least 1.5 courses - or 3 half courses - in the 52 weeks before application are eligible for EI. Some Teaching Assistants, Writing Instructors, and other hourly-paid employees who have a lot of insurable hours, or who have taught a course or two, may also qualify.

Downtown office hours

The downtown Union office at 180 Bloor St West, Suite 902, is normally open for drop-in advice or by appointment. Regular office hours are: Mondays 1pm-4pm; Tuesday through Thursday 10am-4pm; and Fridays 10am-1pm. Dental claims may be slipped through the office mailslot even when the office is closed. The office will be closed for the holidays from December 24, 2007 and will reopen on January 2, 2008. CUPE 3902 also operates offices at the suburban campuses.

CUPE 3902 Unit 1 launches bargaining, together with other UofT unions

The UofT’s four largest trade unions jointly declared their intent to bargain with the University Administration in letters faxed simultaneously to UofT’s Labour Relations Office at 2pm on April 7, 2008. They were soon followed by a fifth union, and a sixth one sent a letter of solidarity with the group on April 7. This initial act of coordination was followed up by a full-day workshop attended by all of UofT’s major unions on May 1, to develop common bargaining demands and strategy.

The 2007-08 FAF disbursement went to 363 successful applicants, and cheques of $640 each are being mailed in the week of April 7.
