Best in class!

According to data recently released by the Labour Program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, the recent Unit 1 Collective Agreement at UofT had the highest wage increase in the Education, Health and Social Services field in Ontario in 2009 (and, excluding settlements in oil and gas rich Alberta and Newfoundland, the highest in Canada). Congrats to our bargaining team!

Some more stats:

The average unionized wage increase in Ontario so far in 2009 is 3 percent (we got 3.5% first year).

The average unionized wage increase amongst public sector workers in 2009 is 2.3%.

The average contract length for unionized Education, Health and Social Services workers was 39.9 months (our was 36 months).

The average contract length for unionized workers in Canada was 42.5 months.

Just remember that our Sessional Lecturers and our Victoria College instructional staff unit are up for negotiations this summer. Unit 1 raised the bar, Units 2 and 3 need to keep raising it!
